Hope in a Bottle

The winds have changed,
And here I am alone
On the other side of the ocean.
The flames of passion
That once burned in my heart
Have turned to ashes.
It is winter now and nothing grows.
Not here anyway.
Sometimes I think of you
And how we loved and how we laughed
And what we lost
When we decided to live our lives apart,
Divided by a sea of memories.
Has the world that we knew,
The world that inspired us with its tenderness and its beauty,
Really changed so much,
So suddenly?
The winds have changed,
But they will change again.
Perhaps these words,
Which I have slipped into a bottle of hope and longing,
Will one day make their way to you.
